Peer Review Week 2021 – Identity In Peer Review

WHAT IS PEER REVIEW WEEK?

Peer Review Week is a global event celebrating the essential role that peer review plays in maintaining scientific quality. The event brings together individuals, institutions, and organizations committed to sharing the central message that good peer review, whatever shape or form it might take, is critical to scholarly communications. Over 35 organisations including FEMS are involved in Peer Review Week 2021, including scholarly publishers, societies, service providers, consultants, funders, universities and librarians.

The theme of Peer Review Week 2021 (20-24 September) is Identity in Peer Review. Participating organisations will organise virtual events and activities to highlight the role of personal and social identity in peer review and ways the scholarly community can foster more diverse, equitable, and inclusive peer review practices. This year, participants will explore how the distinct identities of the multiple stakeholders involved in the peer review process bring in added layers of diversity, expectations, perspectives, experience, knowledge, and skill.

You can follow and participate to the discussion on social media with the hashtags #PeerReviewWeek21 and #IdentityInPeerReview.

FEMS Journals and Open Access

Embracing an Open Future

All but one of the FEMS journals are now fully open access (OA), with one journal, FEMS Microbiology Letters remaining a subscription journal with free-to-publish and OA options. Open access is key to supporting the FEMS mission of disseminating high quality research as widely as possible: when high quality, peer reviewed sound science is open access, anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can read it.
