The European Academy of Microbiology brings together EAM Fellows for biennial assemblies to share research and discuss the future direction of microbiology. Following the success of the most recent EAM retreat, held in April 2024 near Madrid, Spain, and attended by 56 Fellows from 20 countries for two days of scientific exchange and collaboration, we are excited to share that the retreat will take place again this year. Planning is already in full swing, and venue, dates, and further details will be announced shortly, so keep an eye out.

Newly elected Fellows and rising stars at the 2024 retreat presented their latest research and its broader societal impact, while discussions explored the future direction of microLife, FEMS’ open‑access journal supported by EAM Fellows. The retreat provided valuable opportunities for networking, idea‑sharing, and strategic planning, reinforcing the Academy’s essential role in advancing microbiology across Europe.
