A Fond Farewell and Warm Welcome for Section Editors Arnoud van Vliet and Conor Meehan
We would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Arnoud van Vliet for his incredible 20+ year contribution as Editor of FEMS Microbiology Letters. This summer he is stepping down as a Section Editor for the Section “Pathogens and Pathogenicity”. Dr van Vliet’s expertise and dedication have been invaluable to our journal and its authors.
Welcome Dr Meehan!
We are also excited to announce the incoming Section Editor: Dr Conor Meehan, an Associate Professor of Microbial Bioinformatics at Nottingham Trent University with an honorary professor position at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium.
Dr Meehan’s research focuses on the evolution and epidemiology of pathogenic microbes, primarily centered on pathogenic mycobacteria such as M. tuberculosis and M. leprae. He has worked extensively on the taxonomy of this genus and understanding the evolution of the species within. His group uses a combination of bioinformatics, phylogenetics, comparative genomics, and public health approaches to enhance the incorporation of molecular techniques (e.g. genome sequencing) into clinical and public health settings.

All but one of the FEMS journals are fully open access (OA), with one journal, FEMS Microbiology Letters, offering free-to-publish and OA options. Open access is key to supporting the FEMS mission of disseminating high quality research as widely as possible: when high quality, peer reviewed sound science is open access, anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can read it.
