A Message from the FSSfP2025 Organizing Director

Prof. d-r Vaso Taleski, Organizing Director of FSSfP

Dear Potential Students of the FEMS Summer School for Postdocs 2025!

With great pleasure I would like to inform you that the sixth FEMS Summer School for Postdocs (FSSfP2025) will take place at a fantastic venue with great facilities, hotel Metropol, Ohrid (UNESCO city), North Macedonia, from 2 to 10 September 2025.

I am honored to announce that we have as Program co-directors: Prof. Joana Falcao Salles University of Groningen, Netherlands and Prof. Tillmann Lueders, University of Bayreuth, Germany. Prof Salles is specialised in microbial community ecology and applies ecological theories to understand how microbial communities are structured in soils (agricultural and natural ) and across various hosts (plants, insects, birds). Prof Lueders works on microbes in water and soil, studying their ecology and role in controlling relevant ecosystem functions and turnover processes. Our directors are working with distinguished speakers and mentors to prepare an excellent and attractive program at the top scientific level.

The 2024 Program was focused on: ”Climate Change: Challenges and Influence on Microbial Safety of Water and Food”. This FSSfP was a great success. The upcoming FSSPD2025 will complement the FEMS dedication and contribution to mitigate central climate change issues with an innovative and applied focus: “Harnessing microbial solutions in environmental research and One Health”.

The course targets postdoctoral researchers interested in applying microbial ecology to environmental challenges, particularly climate change and sustainability. It explores the One Health framework, emphasizing how environmental health impacts human and animal health. Participants will learn about microbial solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance ecosystem resilience, empowering the next generation of scientists to recognize and address the environmental dimensions of health for sustainable practices.

This event is an excellent opportunity to improve your knowledge and skills, open new horizons, start new collaborations and scientific projects, and may have a substantial influence on your scientific career. The great experience from the past five summer schools is a guarantee of the highest quality and greatest benefit, which is also confirmed by the excellent evaluation of all participants, including postdocs, directors, mentors, and speakers.

Ambitious postdocs should not miss this unique event and lifetime opportunity.

Looking forward to your applications and participation.

Organizing Director

FEMS Journals and Open Access

Embracing an Open Future

All but one of the FEMS journals are fully open access (OA), with one journal, FEMS Microbiology Letters, offering free-to-publish and OA options. Open access is key to supporting the FEMS mission of disseminating high quality research as widely as possible: when high quality, peer reviewed sound science is open access, anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can read it.
