He was deeply involved in the scientific community, serving as a mentor to many young researchers, as a leader to scientific organizations including FEMS and the EFB, and a respected contributor to the scientific literature.
During his tenure as Editor-in-Chief of FEMS Microbiology Letters, he guided the journal through the final days of printed issues to the world of fully online journals, ensuring it evolved alongside the changing technological landscape. He also introduced lasting innovations, including graphical abstracts, one sentence summaries, and thematic issues, helping to shape the foundation the journal stands on today.
Not only was Prof. Jeff Cole a highly admired researcher but also a pillar in the community. There are many who can attest to his brilliance, generosity, and kindness. We wish his family and friends strength during this difficult time.
