10th International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology

We are pleased to invite you to the 10th International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology, scheduled to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark from January 12-16, 2026.

This meeting will build upon the success of the previous nine editions of the conference series. Our goal is to bring together global researchers to explore various aspects of microbial diversity, function, and activity of cold-adapted microorganisms in polar and alpine environments. The conference will provide a platform for discussing the latest developments in the field, fostering the exchange of ideas and experiences on an international scale.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Microbial diversity and biogeography in cryospheric environments
  • Metabolic activity at subzero temperatures
  • Mechanisms of microbial adaptation and survival in the cryosphere
  • Cryosphere astrobiology
  • Plant-microbe interactions
  • Microbial communities and global change
  • Carbon and nitrogen turnover
  • Microbial gene pool of cold environments
  • Biotechnology for cryospheric microorganisms
  • Eukaryotic microbial diversity (e.g., algae and fungi)
  • Viruses in polar and alpine environments

We look forward to welcoming you to Copenhagen in January 2026.

  • Date: January 12-16, 2026
  • Time: All-day event
  • Venue: Aarhus University, Emdrup Campus
  • Location: Denmark
  • Category: Symposia, Meetings, and Workshops

Associated Call for Papers: Polar and Alpine Microbiology

FEMS Microbiology Ecology invites submissions to a thematic issue associated with the 10th International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology (12–16 January 2026, Copenhagen).

This issue will build on previous successful collections and focus on the diversity, function, and activity of cold-adapted microorganisms in polar and alpine environments. Topics include microbial diversity and biogeography in the cryosphere, metabolic activity at subzero temperatures, adaptation and survival mechanisms, biogeochemical cycling, global change, astrobiology, and biotechnological potential.

Original research articles, mini-reviews, and perspectives are welcome. All submissions will undergo standard peer review.

Submission deadline: 28 February 2026
Authors should indicate in their cover letter that their manuscript is intended for the Thematic Issue on Polar and Alpine Microbiology.
