2 PhDs in plant and soil microbiome research: Hungary

The newly founded MTA-EKE Lendület Environmental Microbiome Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and the Eszterházy Károly University (EKE) invites applications for multiple postdoctoral and Ph.D. positions to study the composition, function and interactions of soil and plant microbial communities in viticulture.
We study the spatial and temporal dynamics and interactions of soil and plant microbiomes, using an array of molecular techniques, such as metatranscriptomics and DNA metabarcoding among others. Within the framework of the funded research project, we are hiring candidates to pursue their interests in the following research lines:

Ph.D. positions:

Ph.D. 1: Compositional dynamics of microbial communities in viticulture ad surrounding natural habitats

Ph.D. 2: Molecular systematics and interactions of fungi associated with grapevine

Qualifications and skills:

  • MSc. degree in Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, Agriculture or related field
  • some knowledge of bioinformatics related to DNA sequence analyses
  • molecular and/or microbiology lab experience
  • advanced knowledge of English and good writing skills
  • good team player with the ability to work independently as well

The research group and the hosting Research and Development Center of the EKE offer excellent facilities, expertise, and training opportunities in molecular microbial ecology, plant pathology as well as in viticulture and wine research with extensive network of international collaborators. The institute is located in the baroque city of Eger, one of the top tourist destinations in Hungary for its historical city center and castle, thermal baths, wines, and for the natural beauty of the region.
