Initially discovered by the isolation of the host adapted species Chlamydia trachomatis, Chlamydiae are now known as a very large phylum whose members are found in a large variety of environments. One of their key characteristics is an obligate intracellular developmental cycle. They have adapted to very diverse hosts, from protozoans to humans. Several species are pathogenic for humans and animals.

Once a year, the Chlamydia Workshop brings together researchers, veterinarians and human physicians investigating Chlamydiae and Chlamydiae-associated diseases, to present new findings, exchange on best procedures and discuss the challenges to come. To reflect the various actors of the field and adhere to a One Health perspective, the scientific committee includes researchers investigating the biology of the animal and human-associated pathogens, as well as physicians implicated in the clinical consequences of these infections.
