Junior Researcher Position in Translational Medicine
The Nephrology & Infectiology Group of i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) of Universidade do Porto is currently looking for a candidate to participate in MicroMOB project.
MicroMOB project aims to explore unrecognized mobility pathways of the human microbiome through different body habitats, and its role in infection and systemic inflammation in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The suitable candidate will do analysis of biomarkers of inflammation and chronic kidney disease, preparation of biological samples for human microbiome analysis, development of experimental procedures, collection and analysis of data, preparation of manuscripts for publication as well as design, implementation and writing of research projects. In addition, the candidate may collaborate in the supervision of students in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
The duration of the contract, planned for 6 months, will be indexed to the tasks to be carried out, and will be kept for the time necessary for the execution and completion of the activities. i3S is among the best research institutions of Portugal, presenting a dynamic research environment.

Profile: Ph.D. in Human Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Medicine, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or related fields and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. As specific preferred qualifications we seek experience experience in molecular biology, with emphasis in DNA extraction and processing samples for further metagenomic analysis, experience in analysis of biomarkers (specially immunological biomarkers by ELISA) and experience in classical microbiology.
Important dates: Application closes on August 26th 2019. The candidate is expected to start in September/October 2019 with a contract and will receive subsidy and social security according to FCT (scale 33).
