Junior Researcher Position in Translational Microbiology: Portugal

The Nephrology & Infectiology Group of i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) of Universidade do Porto is currently looking for a candidate with high level s of motivation, creativity and productivity to participate in MicroMOB project. MicroMOB project aims to explore unrecognized mobility pathways of the human microbiome through different body habitats, and its role in infection and systemic inflammation in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The suitable candidate will conduct a research in human microbiome analysis, in particular the bioinformatics analysis, he/she should collaborate also in the collection and processing of human samples, analysis of biomarkers of inflammation and CKD, microbiological analysis as well as supervising studen ts in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. i3S is among the best research institutions of Portugal, presenting a dynamic research environment. Candidate Profile:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Human Biology, Microbiology, Medicine, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
  • As specific preferred qualifications we seek experience in bioinformatics, with emphasis in data analysis of next-generation sequencing; experience in molecular biology and classical microbiology; motivation for collecting and processing biological samples and analysis of biomarkers; as well as ability to publish scientific articles, write projects and reports, design and execute experiments, critical thinking and student supervision.

Important dates: Application closes on September 10th 2018. The candidate is expected to start in January 2018 with a contract and will receive subsidy and social security according to FCT (scale 33).
