Microbiology Laboratory Manager: Ireland

Southern Scientific Services Ltd recently secured a major contract and is expanding its Microbiology Department. It is currently seeking a Laboratory Technical Manager to join its growing Microbiological Department.

Southern Scientific performs a broad range of microbiological analysis on food (raw and cooked), water, effluents, soil, compost, sludges, environmental surfaces and a variety of other matrices, which are carried out to European Standards in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice systems. The microbiology team provides rigorous analysis so that its customers can bring their products to market, meeting requirements and protecting public health. The scientific team offer interpretation of results and consultation so that its customers can act appropriately for the benefit of their company. The laboratory is accredited to ISO 17025 (Reg no. 194T). The department also provides HACCP training.

Role description

  • the candidate will oversee the laboratory workflow; she/he will schedule work to ensure that stated turnaround times are met without compromising the quality of results generated
  • the chosen candidate, alongside the Quality Manager, will be responsible for maintaining the laboratory’s quality system in accordance with the in-house standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and ISO 17025
  • the candidate will lead research and method development of new techniques and liaise with the business development team on new ventures

The Candidate should hold a degree in Microbiology – Masters or PhD level preferred. The candidate should have 3 years’ experience in a similar environment, experienced in management and/or previous experience of an INAB accredited laboratory.
