Postdoc in computational biology of plant-associated microbes at the Polytechnic University of Madrid
We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher who is passionate about understanding how mutation and recombination biases shape evolution in bacteria, both from fundamental and applied perspectives. Your primary role will involve using comparative genomics and computational modeling to explore the forces that determine the evolutionary persistence of both natural and synthetic genetic elements. While the main project is curiosity-driven basic science, the post is embedded within a consortium of groups dedicated to applying systems and synthetic biology approaches to agriculture. This consortium acknowledges that a fine understanding of the evolutionary forces influencing genetic constructs is crucial for this initiative.
The ideal candidate holds a doctoral degree in bioinformatics, computer modeling, comparative genomics, or a related field. We expect a high degree of autonomy, with active participation in shaping the research direction. The candidate will join the Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP), a mixed research centre supported by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the National Research Council (CSIC). The post is available from January 2024 for 2 years.
