We are seeking a postdoc to join a NIH supported project on phage therapy to investigate the role of the immune system during the treatment of pneumonia initiated by the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This project will be carried out in collaboration with the team of Prof. Joshua Weitz (Georgia Tech, USA) – a group specializing in theory and models of viral dynamics.

The central goal of the joint project is to expand the foundational understanding of phage therapy and phage-immune system interactions [1]. Bacteriophage therapy is now recognized as one of the most promising treatment approaches against multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. Several case reports in Europe and in the USA have demonstrated the benefit of this approach to patients running out of treatment options. Our team is at the forefront of the experimental phage therapy research field, with expertise encompassing bacteriophage biology, microbiology and infectious diseases.

We are looking for a motivated candidate with a degree-qualified (MD, PhD, DVD) in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, infectious disease, or closely related fields. Previous experience with rodent animal models and demonstrated track record of productive research in immunology and/or microbiology is highly desirable. Fluent English communication and strong collaborative spirit is mandatory as the candidate will interact frequently with international experts in immunology, microbiology, physics and mathematics.

The position will start on January 1st, 2020 for an initial duration of 24 months with a possible extension of at least 12 months.
