Postdoc in molecular genetics of human intestinal Bacteroidetes: Sweden

About the project
The intestinal microbiome impacts health throughout the entire human body. Because of this, it has become important to understand how it is built and maintained. The project concerns the study of human gut Bacteroidetes, which are prominent members of the gut microbiome. A pipeline to observe multiple genes by functionality tests, biochemistry and structural biology will be implemented to study putative intestinal colonisation factors in vitro. The successful candidate will develop a project with state of the art techniques of molecular biology, mutagenesis and microscopy. The position is for 2 years and it is available from July 1st 2019.

About the Cisneros team
Our team is newly formed and it is located in the Department of Molecular Biology of Umeå University in Sweden. Our main interest has been the study of bacterial and eukaryotic macromolecular complexes at both the functional and structural level. For this purposes we have used an interdisciplinary approach with techniques ranging from computational modelling, structural biology, biochemistry and genetics. We have established a new research line involving relevant bacteria of the gut microbiome. The team collaborates with research groups at The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS).

Qualifications
Applicants must hold PhD in any field of microbiology or are about to receive a PhD. A PhD certificate should be provided in the beginning of the postdoc. The project requires expertise in cultivation and genetic manipulation of anaerobic bacteria. Good expertise in molecular biology techniques such as Golden-gate and Gibson cloning are necessary for the project. Expertise in Bacteroidetes manipulation including transposon mutagenesis are a plus.
Other qualifications required: ability to independently design and analyse experiments, fluency in oral and written English, proficiency in scientific writing and good presentation skills. Candidates should be enthusiastic and interact positively with other members of the group and the institute. Good organisational skills are a plus.

To apply send a short CV (2 pages max.) including a publication list, a motivation letter (2 pages max.) and the name of three references together in a single pdf file in English language by email to david.cisneros@umu.se
