Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT (www.iit.it) is opening a post-doctoral position In Organic Biotechnology in the framework of the ERC Project “Light Induced Cell modulation by Exogenous Organic Semiconductors, LINCE” (Grant Agreement Nr. 803621), focused on the development of light sensitive devices for optical modulation of the cellular activity. This research activity will be carried out at the “Center for Nano Science and Technology” (CNST@PoliMi Milano).

The final goal is the realization of light sensitive materials and devices able to modulate, with high efficacy and selectivity, the activity of different models of living cells, from their genesis to proliferation, from differentiation to specific functions. The candidate will characterize hybrid interfaces between functional materials and in vitro cells, by studying the effect of optical stimulation of the biomaterials on cellular activity and metabolism. He/she will work in a highly multidisciplinary research team, comprising biologists, biotechnologists, material scientists, physicists and engineers, and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities for bio-hybrid interfaces characterization.

Eligible applicants are required to have a PhD in either Biology, Biotechnology, Physiology, Bioengineering, Neuroscience or related fields, must be fluent in English and have a marked aptitude to work in team.

Previous knowledge and documented lab expertise of cell biology basic methods, cell cultures preparation and management, immunohistochemistry assays and cell imaging is required. Knowledge of electrophysiology techniques, stem cells physiology and maintenance, pharmacology, molecular biology, represent all preferential titles.
