Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Protein homeostasis: UK

The laboratory of Dr. Adrien Rousseau (School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee)  is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral applicant to study how protein homeostasis is regulated in cells, especially under stressful conditions. Projects focus on how protein phosphorylation events regulate protein homeostasis and cell survival. Additional projects consist in developing new tools to characterize how proteasome homeostasis is regulated in cells, and to use these tools to identify new regulators and drugs modulating proteasomal degradation. Both yeast and mammalian systems will be used to tackle these queries.

The candidate should have a PhD in a relevant area (Biochemistry, Molecular/Cellular biology, Microbiology and/or Proteomics) and have interests in these fields: Protein homeostasis, Proteasomal degradation, Stress response and Protein phosphorylation.

The offered position will be held at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitinylation Unit (MRC PPU) within the School of Life Sciences for a period of 3 years in the first instance.

Candidate qualifications:

  • Previous experience in either proteomics, kinase biology or yeast biology would be ideal.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new techniques across a broad range of disciplines and to adapt/develop novel approaches where required.
  • Motivation, creativity and ability to communicate and to work with others.
  • Strong academic track record.Excellent communication and writing skills in English.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr. Adrien Rousseau (a.rousseau@dundee.ac.uk).

The MRC PPU:

The MRC PPU is a world-class institute where researchers are using state of the art approaches and techniques to understand signal transduction and unravel the causal mechanisms behind various human diseases. This high standard research and scientific environment is optimal for postdoctoral applicants. The selected candidate will thereby benefit from exceptional research facilities and expertise available within the University of Dundee.

Appointment as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a PhD. An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD. The initial appointment will be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 28, £30,688).
