Research Assistant / Associate in “Collaborative Proteomics Research”: Ireland
We are seeking to appoint a motivated scientist with considerable expertise in mass spectrometry to take charge of major collaborative research projects between the Trost Proteomics group and outstanding research groups at Newcastle University. The position is within our recent Wellcome grant which funds a brand-new mass spectrometer to provide state-of-the-art proteomics to highly relevant research questions in human disease. This position provides an exciting opportunity to be involved in important research projects and for the successful applicant to develop a major international reputation.
We seek a talented and enthusiastic post-doctoral scientist with a background in mass spectrometry/proteomics. The successful applicant will have a good academic track record and have published at least one first authored paper in an international journal. The candidate will ideally have experience with large-scale proteome analyses, and knowledge and working experience with mass spectrometry systems and quantitative proteomics as well as the ability to use bioinformatic tools to analyse large-scale data. Knowledge and working experience in biochemistry, cell biology or microbiology would be advantageous, but is not essential.
The position is initially for 4 years but can potentially be extended. It is available immediately, but applicants wishing to start at a later time will be considered.
The position is based in the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences (ICaMB) at Newcastle University. In the last Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) by the UK government, ICaMB was 1st for research output amongst all of the UK submitted University biosciences departments and was placed 5th out of 44 UK submissions in the overall scores.
