Research Assistant in Microbiology: Switzerland

The School of Life Sciences and Facility Management of the The Zurich University of Applied Sciences is looking for a qualified Research Assistant in Microbiology.

The candidate:

  • has completed MSc in Biology or in a closely related field. Skills in microbiology or food microbiology are an asset.
  • having theoretical and practical experience with reference method in the area of pathogen detection and statistics will enhance her/his qualification.
  • should be highly motivated, creative and curious.
  • fluent command of English (both written and spoken) is mandatory and knowledge in German or French is beneficial.

The candidate is expected to:

  • develop a new method to specifically detect L. monocytogenes and Salmonella from surfaces and in food samples, applying a novel technology that is based on chemiluminescence.
  • combine classic microbiology, gene regulation aspects and method validation.
  • actively shape the direction of her/his project and to closely collaborate with the industrial partner and present the data at regular meetings and in scientific publications.

The job offers the chance to get involved in an applied research project together with a young startup company.

The research will be carried out at the ZHAW in Wädenswil for a period of 18 months in time. The employment is temporary.
