The complexity of tuberculosis: From bench to bedside

The fourth edition of the Workshop on Tuberculosis 2026, to be held at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, will address the persistent and evolving challenges posed by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other pathogenic mycobacteria. With TB reclaiming its position as the world’s leading infectious disease killer, exacerbated by drug resistance, diagnostic and treatment gaps, and co-morbidities such as HIV, urgent scientific collaboration is needed to advance research and clinical solutions.

This workshop will provide a platform for leading experts to present and discuss cutting-edge research spanning TB biology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, drug resistance, host-pathogen interactions, and novel therapeutic and preventive strategies. Key areas of focus will include the molecular mechanisms of mycobacterial physiology, antibiotic resistance, host susceptibility, and vaccine efficacy. Given the rising burden of non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections, the workshop will also address emerging diagnostic and treatment challenges. By fostering interdisciplinary discussions among microbiologists, biochemists, immunologists, epidemiologists, computational scientists, and clinicians, this meeting aims to translate fundamental discoveries into impactful interventions.

The workshop’s primary objectives are to: (i) showcase the latest scientific innovations in mycobacterial research, (ii) enhance collaboration across diverse fields and geographic regions, and (iii) accelerate the translation of research findings into practical solutions for TB management. By bridging research and public health, the workshop seeks to contribute to the global fight against mycobacterial diseases, ultimately improving prevention, treatment, and control strategies worldwide.
