XXIV National Congress of Food Microbiology of the SEM

We are pleased to announce the XXIV National Congress of Food Microbiology of the SEM , which will take place in the city of Gijón on September 14, 15, 16 and 17, 2026. The Organizing Committee of the “ Institute of Dairy Products of Asturias (IPLA-CSIC) ” is working with great enthusiasm to ensure it will be an unforgettable experience, just as it has been in previous editions.

The scientific program has been designed to cover the diverse topics addressed by the SEM Food Microbiology Group, from the study of microorganisms in food to the new challenges arising from the emergence of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. We hope this meeting will foster a dynamic ecosystem of interaction and knowledge exchange, strengthening collaborative networks and driving new ideas. We are committed to internationalization and will pay special attention to young researchers, who are the future of the SEM Food Group.

All of this will take place at the Gijón Conference Centre, located in the Luis Adaro Exhibition Centre, in a very pleasant area of ​​the city, near the beach and surrounded by parks. Gijón is a northern city, open to the sea, with a pleasant climate at this time of year and a festive atmosphere  Therefore, we have prepared a cultural program that will allow us to learn about its history and enjoy products such as Asturian cheeses and cider, icons of our gastronomy and tradition.
