Volunteer: Katharina Rosenbusch
Katharina Rosenbusch studied Molecular/ Biology in Bremen, Germany. During her B.Sc. she studied one semester at the University of Auckland, NZ, and completed a seven month internship at the Metabolomic department. In the course of her M.Sc. she performed an internship of ten month within the faculty of Medical Microbiology. The work of her Ph.D. at the University of Groningen (NL), Department Cell Biochemistry, is focused on identifying the intra- and intermolecular regulation of LRRK2, a human protein associated with Parkinson’s Disease, as well as its involvement in cellular processes. Being a member of the Michael J. Fox foundation her project was involved in international research and performed in collaboration with several institutes. Katharina published numerous scientific articles and reviews, taught research courses, and attended and lectured at international conferences. She decided to volunteer for FEMS to support the promotion of Science and to be informed about ongoing research/ events.
All but one of the FEMS journals are now fully open access (OA), with one journal, FEMS Microbiology Letters remaining a subscription journal with free-to-publish and OA options. Open access is key to supporting the FEMS mission of disseminating high quality research as widely as possible: when high quality, peer reviewed sound science is open access, anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can read it.
