One of the oldest organizations of its kind in the world was established in 1928. Establishment of the Czechoslovak Society for Microbiology was largely due Frantisek Patocka (1904-1985), who was with the idea of association of microbiologists to exchange information and experiences encountered during their studies at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
