30th Jubilee Congress of the Polish Society of Microbiologists – 100 years of science, 100 years of practice
This nationwide event will inaugurate the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Polish Society of Microbiologists, one of the oldest scientific societies in Poland. The congress aims to organize a three-day interdisciplinary scientific conference, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, research results, and best practices in microbiology – a field crucial for health security, economic innovation, and societal resilience to biological threats. The COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the growing threats related to antibiotic resistance, zoonoses, food safety, and environmental pollution, have highlighted that microbiology is now at the center of global civilizational challenges.
The development of modern diagnostics, bioremediation, bioinformatics, and therapeutic methods requires not only basic and implementation research but also systematic dialogue between science, medicine, industry, and public administration. The event will address these needs by integrating expert communities and promoting the development of research and professional competencies.
The conference will be organized by the Polish Society of Microbiologists (PTM) in collaboration with Polish universities and medical schools. It will bring together nearly 300 participants from Poland and abroad, including renowned specialists in medical, environmental, food, industrial, and pharmaceutical microbiology, as well as representatives of diagnostic laboratories, scientific institutions, the biotechnology sector, and healthcare administration. The conference will feature plenary lectures, thematic sessions, practical workshops, poster sessions, short oral presentations, and accompanying events. The conference will be conducted in Polish. The conference will cover classic areas of microbiology, such as environmental microbiology, infection diagnostics, virology, parasitology, and clinical microbiology, as well as modern research directions – microbiomics, artificial intelligence in microbiology, bioinformatics, the development of new antimicrobial substances, and the One Health concept, which integrates medical, environmental, and veterinary approaches. Threats related to alarming pathogens, zoonoses, and the effects of climate change will also be discussed, as well as issues related to the microbiological quality of the work environment and everyday life. We have invited distinguished representatives from each field of microbiology to deliver keynote lectures and opening sessions (not all invited guests have yet confirmed their participation).
