28-11-2024

The Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) is delighted to announce the appointment of Clare Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology at Edinburgh Napier University, as the new Editor-in-Chief of FEMS Microbiology Letters, effective 1 January 2025.

Dr Clare Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology at Edinburgh Napier University.

Dr. Taylor’s research has focused on understanding host-environment-pathogen interactions of the intracellular bacteria Salmonella enterica and Listeria monocytogenes. Her work extends beyond microbiology and includes advocacy for equality and diversity in the life sciences, as well as working to improve the understanding of science within policy-making bodies.

She will take over from Dr Rich Boden, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, whose ten-year tenure saw FEMS Microbiology Letters flourish, grow and more intentionally focus on professional development of microbiologists. FEMS and the broader microbiology community thanks him greatly for his achievements, dedication, and service while involved with the journal.

“I am thrilled to lead FEMS Microbiology Letters and look forwards to building on its valued legacy of rapidly publishing sound science across all aspects of microbiology – and to strengthen its role in actively supporting the professional development of all who contribute to the journal,” said Dr Taylor.

Elise Kuurstra, FEMS Executive Director, said “We are excited to welcome Dr Taylor to the FEMS team of Editors. Her commitment to inclusivity and public engagement are important values that FEMS is striving to embed into our work more broadly. We are confident that her leadership will greatly enrich the journal’s contribution to the global microbiology community.”
