Journal poster prizes – investing in science

11-08-2018

FEMS is proud to invest back into science at every opportunity, whether that is through sponsoring meetings, providing travel grants, or providing a publishing outlet for researchers around the world.

Another key part of this effort is celebrating the best and brightest researchers, whether they are highly experienced and respected members of their field, or early career microbiologists just beginning their journey.

Meet the winners of the poster prizes that have been awarded this year:

Winner: Vasiliki Kachrimanidou
Prize: FEMS-RRB Poster Prize, 2018
Meeting: The 14th meeting of the International Conference on Renewable Resources and Biorefineries, Ghent, Belgium, 30 May – 1 June.

Based on the research carried out during my PhD and later on as a post-doc I would like to develop my research on the extraction of potential prebiotics from renewable resources and evaluate their effect on gut microbiome along with other applications. Likewise, I hope to focus on the development of bioprocesses to valorise agricultural waste and by-product streams that will enable the production of a multitude of value-added products that could fit in the bioeconomy era.” ─Vasiliki Kachrimanidou

Winners: Amaru Indigo Miranda San Martin Djurhuus and Moshe Shemesh
Prize: MIFFI Poster Prize 2018
Meeting: International Conference on Microbial Food and Feed Ingredients (MIFFI2018), 2-4 May 2018, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
