The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) are inviting applications for a position of Associate Professor in Virology within the Institute of microbiology. The starting date is to be agreed. Location is Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Institute of Microbiology of the University of Lausanne (IMUL) corresponds to one of the eight services of the Department of Laboratories at the CHUV, and hence also named Service of Microbiology. The Institute of Microbiology hosts 9 research groups active in microbiology (bacteriology, mycology or virology). Four additional external research groups with a strong interest in microbiology are further increasing the critical mass of researchers in this Institute of 5 floors located in the heart of the University Hospital Campus. Thus, the Institute of Microbiology accommodates 5 groups active in Bacteriology (Chlamydiae, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, antimicrobial peptides, microbiota), 5 groups working in virology (HIV, HCV/HEV, Coronavirus, respiratory viruses, HPV) as well as 3 groups studying fungi (Aspergillus, Pneumocystis, dermatophytes). Thus, we are looking for a fundamental virologist with ideally an expertise on emerging pathogenic viruses (respiratory virus, arbovirus, tick-borne viruses, …) and/or herpes virus (CMV, EBV, HSV, VZV, HHV-8, ….).

Main missions:

• Provide undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in virology at the School of Biology and at the postgraduate level
• Lead a high-level research program in virology
• Participate in the life of the Institute
