The Department of Food Science at the University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor. The Associate Professor will mainly perform tasks within microbial ecology with particular emphasis on gut and food microbiology using molecular biology-based methods such as state-of-the-art sequencing techniques complemented with classical microbiological techniques.
Focus areas include microbiota-host interactions (humans, animals) and microbial community dynamics and behavior in complex environments (mainly food matrices). Independent contribution to the development and maintenance of state-of-art molecular biology based methods including the associated bioinformatic tools and infrastructure is expected. Furthermore, the position will involve teaching duties at BSc, MSc and PhD-level.
The applicant is expected to have documented qualifications in the following areas:
- Molecular biology based methods for characterizing complex microbial environments (next and third generation sequencing, qPCR, high throughput qPCR)
- Bioinformatics; analysis of high throughput sequencing based data-sets (amplicon, metagenomes and nano-pore generated data)
- Multivariate data-analysis/chemometrics (MATLAB or similar) at advanced user level
- Experience with classical microbiological techniques
- Teaching/supervision at university level
- Ability to collaborate with different stakeholders
- Project management
Some experience within one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:
- Knowledge of Bionumerics, R and C++
- Good understanding of computer hardware allowing independent management of network computers and servers
