Biologist at the Department of Limnology and Bio-Oceanography: Austria

The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 178 fields of study, approx. 9.800 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position as soon as possible of a Biologist
at the Department of Limnology and Bio-Oceanography. The University of Vienna and the Department of Limnology and Bio-Oceanography provide an innovative work environment of interdisciplinary and international scientists. In addition to experimental facilities, state-of-the-art laboratories are available that include basic infrastructure for molecular and microbiological work, flow cytometry, gas-chromatography, HPLC, ion-chromatography and TOC analyser, etc. The candidate is also willing to do field research.

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
The Division of Limnology at the Department of Limnology & Bio-Oceanography of the University of Vienna seek to employ an early career scientist experienced in the field of groundwater microbial ecology. The intended focus of the research shall be on spatial and temporal pattern of groundwater microbial communities. In depth knowledge on biogeographic distribution as a basis for the development of groundwater microbial assessment schemes is envisaged. Research shall strongly consider current and future pressures to groundwater ecosystems from climate and global change. Through filling this position, we aim at complementing and extending existing research fields at the Division of Limnology. Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement – Supervision of students – Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance – Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Profile:
The position requires a PhD and a strong publication record. The successful candidate must show strong commitment to develop and submit project proposals for acquiring third party funding and is willing to mentor students and fellows. The scientific working languages at the Division of Limnology are English and German.
The position will be filled as soon as possible and is offered for 6 years.

The candidate will have a strong background in groundwater microbial and molecular ecology. Additional experience in biogeochemistry, hydrogeology, biostatistics and ecological modelling is of advantage.
