This is a laboratory-based position working within a small team to develop tests to support a range of microbiological research as well as develop their own research career.

Initially a key focus will be on managing and undertaking a self-contained project within the Scottish Government’s Strategic Research Programme to develop, optimise and validate a molecular test to detect somatic coliphages through the drinking water treatment chain from environment to tap, responding to recent changes in drinking water quality regulation. While the role will contribute to current and future funded projects, the post holder will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to develop their own research initiatives in the water environment and related environmental matrices such as soils, biofilm and organic waste. There is also the potential to contribute to commercial income via our commercial subsidiary James Hutton Limited.
