FIS International 2026
The Federation of Infection Societies (FIS) conference is the largest UK-hosted, international infection conference. This special inter-disciplinary and inter-society annual conference is a must-attend event for anyone working in infection prevention and control, infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, and biomedical science.
This year, the Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) will be hosting FIS International and will once again be partnering with the British Infection Association (BIA) to deliver the event, which brings together individuals at all career stages, from clinical and research backgrounds. The three-day conference will feature a varied programme of plenary lectures, debates, clinical cases, poster and oral presentations, trade exhibition, and social programme.
The Federation of Infection Societies (FIS) was established in 1993 to organise a national conference representing UK infection specialty societies, with the first meeting held in 1994. Since then, it has become a key event in the UK infection calendar, bringing together infection professionals from across the UK and increasingly from overseas to showcase research, innovation, and best practice, while supporting training, networking, and continuing professional development (CPD). Reflecting its growing international reach and strategic ambitions, FIS was officially renamed FIS International in 2025. The conference now attracts approximately 600–800 delegates annually and serves as an important platform for scientific exchange and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Each year, the conference programme includes invited speakers, workshops, free papers, poster presentations, quizzes, social events, and industry engagement sessions highlighting the latest developments in infection sciences and healthcare. Delegates represent a broad range of disciplines, including infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, virologists, laboratory scientists, infection prevention practitioners, trainees, epidemiologists, public health practitioners, researchers, students and others creating valuable opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The Conference Organising Group includes representatives from the two current host societies — the Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) and the British Infection Association (BIA). The scientific programme is developed through proposals submitted by infection societies and related organisations, with approximately 10–15 societies and organisations contributing each year. Societies submitting full proposals become participating societies for that year’s FIS International and benefit from reduced registration rates and other advantages. Those with successful session proposals also receive financial support for their sessions. All infection societies, governmental bodies, and UK Royal Colleges are invited to submit proposals, ensuring that the programme remains representative, inclusive, collaborative, and internationally relevant.
