Marcus Postdoctoral Fellowships in Water Sciences - Fall 2018: Israel

The office of Vice President and Dean for R&D will award exceptional young researchers postdoctoral fellowships in water science under the mentorship of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev faculty members. The goal of these fellowships is to explore new research directions in water sciences and the intersection of water science with agriculture, nanotechnology, desert studies, food, water, human health and the environment.

The fellowship will support up to three post-doctoral researchers, for up to two years each. Support for a second year will be granted conditionally based on the fellow’s accomplishments and progress during the first year and on the mentor’s recommendations. The research must be creative, multi-disciplinary, and complimentary to ongoing water research at BGU, or capable of generating new research directions within the core topical areas of The Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research.

The amount of the award is NIS 105,000 annually. Applicants may also be eligible for a reimbursement of an economy class roundtrip airplane ticket to/from Israel for the purpose of relocation, up to a maximum amount of NIS 5,300.
Advisors can supplement the fellowships with their own research funds.

Application eligibility:

  1. Non-BGU students only. Candidates who were, or are currently students of BGU are not eligible!
  2. Must have a Doctor of Philosophy degree or a Doctor of Medicine degree from a recognized institution, or a certificate stating their Doctorate has been submitted for review or a signed document stating that their doctorate will be submitted before the beginning of the fellowship by the applicant’s current head of the department. In the latter cases, the application is approved for one year, and its continuation is dependent on the approval of the Ph.D./MD degree.
  3. No more than five years have elapsed between the date of approval of the doctorate degree and the beginning of the postdoctoral fellowship.
  4. Consent of a BGU faculty member with the rank of lecturer (assistant professor) and above to mentor the candidate is required.
