Microbiologist - Microbial Cell Factories: Netherlands
Do you want to contribute as a scientist to a sustainable society which uses renewable resources? Wageningen Food and Biobased Research (WFBR) is strengthening the biobased economy as well as the circular economy. We do that together with our clients within the industry as well as governmental bodies, and we cooperate intensively with other knowledge institutes. WFBR develops materials, chemicals and food ingredients which originate from renewable biobased resources. In Europe, WFBR belongs to the strongest players in this domain. We are presently looking for a Microbiologist for the expertise group Microbial Cell Factories (MCF).
The expertise group (MCF) focusses on contract research on the microbial conversion of waste and (agro) side streams to chemicals and food ingredients like flavours and fragrances as well as clean label formulations. You will be responsible for contract research in the field of the development and application of microbial platforms to the generation of (fine) chemicals and food ingredients like flavours and fragrances. Besides that, you will contribute to the acquisition of projects mainly from industrial customers. You will closely contribute with other colleagues within WFBR in project teams, because the field of operation reaches from chemicals to food ingredients. Whenever appropriate, you will act as a project leader. You will also closely cooperate with the Wageningen University scientists for the necessary fundamental support.
We ask
Are you a PhD in Microbiology, with knowledge of fermentation and experience in, or at least affinity with, industrial biotechnology and practical application of fermentation processes who wants to stregnthen out team? Do you have experience with project leadership and acquisition from industry, or at least affinity with these topics?
Ideally you will bring :
- Experience working with industrial partners and with the acquisition of new projects in industry;
- Experience or affinity with the biobased domain;
- Experience with eukaryotes like yeasts, fungi and micro-algae;
- A flexible and results oriented attitude;
- Excellent communication skills, knowledge of the Dutch and English languages;
- Team player skills like ability to motivate, enter uncharted territories, high accountability, high energy.

Gross salary € 4934,-. maximum per month. We not only offer a competitive salary but also good (study) leave and a pension of the ABP Pension Fund.
