Microscopist: United Kingdom

Based in West London, the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences (LMS) is an Institute of the Medical Research Council and an academic division of the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. Research activity is organised around three major themes: Epigenetics, Integrative Biology and Genes and Metabolism, addressing key questions underpinning human health and disease. Research at the LMS covers a wide range of topics and is supported by a well-equipped and expanding light microscopy facility which comprises a large variety of systems ranging from stereo microscopes and slide scanners to the latest confocal, super-resolution and light sheets instruments.

The candidate:

  • we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will provide training and technical support for our large user base as well as performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the different imaging platforms
  • direct participation in research projects is encouraged
  • you will report to the head of the facility and should have a science degree in a relevant area with significant research experience using light microscopy techniques including fluorescence confocal microscopy
  • a good understanding of all aspects of digital imaging from acquisition to image processing and analysis is desirable
  • advanced computer skills are essential
  • aou should be interested in developing and applying new imaging techniques, possess excellent written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with facility users and have the ability to work independently as well as operating as part of a small team
