Multiple PhD positions at University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf: Germany

Multiple PhD positions are now advertised at University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE – Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf) in Germany. The UKE is a pulsating centre of health in the heart of Hamburg. When you are surrounded by that much energy and when progress sets the pace, no two days are the same. More than 14,100 employees with very different responsibilities are united by the same goal: ensuring health and well-being.

Positions

  1. PhD 1 (Prof. Aepfelbacher): The mechanisms by which enteropathogenic bacteria of the genus Yersinia reprogram cells of the innate immune system are investigated using a variety of methods, e.g. high-resolution fluorescence microscopy, CRISPR/Cas-mediated genetic engineering, and proteome and genome analyses.
  2. PhD 2 (Prof. Fischer): How chronic DNA viruses modulate host cell responses to establish infection is studied using genome-wide high-throughput sequencing methods. We are using omics technologies to study host response and chromatin changes in DNA virus infection and pathogenesis.
  3. PhD 3 (Dr. Pfefferle/ Dr. Lütgehetmann): To characterize pathomechanisms and tropism of different SARS-CoV-2 variants, infection models and reverse genetics are used and virological analyses of human tissue samples are performed for evaluation. In addition to work under the S3 safety level (viral culture, viral quantification), a variety of molecular (cloning, mutagenesis, qPCR and sequencing) and imaging (immunofluorescence, ISH) techniques will be used.
