PhD in microbiology, molecular biotechnology, biochemistry: Austria

A Ph.D. position is available in the research group of Prof. Dr. Monika Ehling-Schulz, Institute of Microbiology at Vetmeduni Vienna, to study the pathomechanisms of the toxigenic bacteria Bacillus cereus. Methods applied will include molecular cloning/knockout techniques, Omics-technologies, and cell culture. The candidate will contribute to scientific publications and participate in the education of students.

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and driven students to join our lab and work with us to understand the complex regulatory circuits orchestrating metabolism and virulence development in toxigenic bacteria.

The ideal candidates should hold a Master’s degree in life sciences, biomedicine, or biochemistry. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in microbiological and molecular techniques. Experience in cell biology is an asset. Very good knowledge of English is essential since oral and written language proficiency in English is required for external communication. The candidate should show an independent working style, and be a team player. We provide an excellent laboratory environment and integration in a dynamic interdisciplinary research team.

Screening of applicants will start on September 30, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. The successful candidates will be expected to start their projects between November 1, 2023, and March 1, 2024. The position is funded for 4 years. The selected candidate is expected to complete a Ph.D. thesis within the time frame of this project.
