PhD position for a microbiologist, molecular biotechnologist, biochemist: Vienna

In frame of the transdisciplinary project MicRisk 2030, a collaborative project of Vetmeduni Vienna, University of Zurich, ETH Zurich, and SUPSI, a Ph.D. position is available in the research group of Prof. Dr. Monika Ehling-Schulz. The successful candidate applies and adapts a toolbox of innovative methods, such as molecular, biochemical, and cell biology techniques as well as biomonitoring systems, to study the pathomechanisms of Bacillus cereus. The data from this Ph.D. project will contribute to exploring a new path for AI-based microbial risk assessment and management toward sustainable food systems.

The MicRisk 230 project will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work in a transdisciplinary team and to join the project partner labs in Switzerland for an internship.

The ideal candidates should hold a Master’s degree in life sciences or biochemistry. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in microbiological and molecular techniques. Experience in cell biology is an asset. Very good knowledge of English is essential since oral and written language proficiency in English is required for external communication. The candidate should be interested in applied research, show an independent working style and be a team player. We provide an excellent laboratory environment and integration in a dynamic interdisciplinary research team.

The position is funded for 4 years. The selected candidate is expected to complete a Ph.D. thesis within the time frame of this project.
