Position Available: Research Assistant (m/f/d)

We invite applications for a full-time Research Assistant position, initially for a fixed term of 3 years, with the potential for extension.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced researcher to join our dynamic, internationally networked group in the field of geomicrobiology. Candidates with expertise in functional microbiome research and “multiomics” or “integrative omics” approaches, particularly those skilled in high-throughput techniques and/or stable isotope probing, are encouraged to apply. The role focuses on investigating microbial interactions in aquatic and terrestrial habitats.
As part of the Cluster of Excellence ‘Balance of the Microverse’, we expect you to be willing to participate in ongoing large-scale projects and to successfully acquire third-party funding. Your responsibilities:
• Teach courses (in German and English) in the fields of Biology and Biogeosciences (4 hours per week), including Bachelor’s and Master’s level programs
• Develop a small research team within your area of geomicrobiology expertise
• Supervise students and doctoral candidates
• Conduct independent research with the possibility of working towards a habilitation
Your profile:
• PhD in microbiology, bioinformatics, biogeochemistry, or a related field
• Several years’ experience in high-throughput techniques (e.g., NGS, (meta-)genomics, (meta-)transcriptomics, (meta-)proteomics)
• Proficiency in bioinformatics, including pipeline development (Python/Perl/R)
• Experience in stable isotope probing techniques and Raman spectroscopy
• Solid knowledge of microbial physiology, biochemistry, and cultivation is beneficial
• Strong team skills, initiative, and a proven record of innovative research
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both written and spoken
• Strong publication record in leading international journals
