Post-doctoral Research Associate - Hybrid Electronics Based on Photosynthetic Organisms: Sweden

Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is a centre of experimental plant biology in Umeå, Sweden. UPSC provides excellent facilities for experimental plant science. There are about 180 persons from 40 different countries working at UPSC. Umeå is a vibrant university town and the cultural capital of northern Sweden with good access to Stockholm and the rest of the world.

Two post-doctoral position are available at the Umeå Plant Science Center, Sweden to join a new EU funded research program (HyPhOE) developing novel electronic tools for physiological control of plants using bioelectronics.

Duties:

HyPhOE aims to use bioelectronic devices featuring electronically-controlled release of hormones and nutrients coupled with environmental sensors for controlling adaptation and growth of plants. In this project the focus is on using organic electronic ion pumps to deliver plant hormones and/or nitrogen with high spatiotemporal resolution into plants. Both Populus trees and Arabidopsis will be used as model systems. The project is done in close collaboration with the organic electronics group at Linköping University. One position will be in the Niittylä group and the other in the Näsholm group.

Qualifications:

  • applicants should have a PhD in molecular plant physiology or biochemistry and a genuine interest to develop new tools for experimental plant research
  • experience on plant hormone biology or nitrogen metabolism/transport is of merit
  • good written and oral communication skills in English are required
  • the position can be started as soon as is appropriate
