Postdoctoral and Research Assistant Positions in Fungal Functional Genomics And Evolution: Hungary
The Fungal Genomics and Evolution Lab (BRC, Szeged) invites applications for multiple postdoctoral positions (computational and wet-lab) for the study of lignocellulose degradation, multicellularity, morphogenetic and developmental transitions and the evolution of complexity in fungi.
We use a combination of comparative evolutionary analyses, cutting edge -omics techniques and molecular biology. Within the broad research interests of the lab, the successful candidates will explore research ideas along the lines of:
- gene regulatory networks underlying lignocellulose degradation and multicellularity
- the evolution of yeasts and dimorphic fungi
- fungal morphogenesis (defined broadly, including the development of fruiting bodies, pathogenesis-related morphological structures, etc.)
The Candidates
Successful candidates have completed their masters or PhD studies, are highly motivated, capable of developing research ideas, protocols and workflows for the above-mentioned approaches (with help from the PI), have good problem solving and team player skills.
The position involves working independently and with other members of the research team, and provides the opportunity to interact with the wide knowledge base in molecular and systems biology in our collaborator network and within the Synthetic and Systems Biology Unit (http://group.szbk.u-szeged.hu/sysbiol/).
The BRC is an equal opportunity employer, applications from female candidates and underrepresented groups are encouraged.
The Lab
The Fungal Genomics and Evolution lab (http://group.szbk.u-szeged.hu/sysbiol/nagy-laszlo-lab-overview.html) comprises a dynamic and young team, cutting edge projects (recent papers in Nature Ecology and Evolution, PNAS, Nature Communications, etc.) and an extensive collaborator network. The Lab was recently funded by the ERC (project duration: 2018-2023) and the Momentum Program (2020-2025).
We are part of the Synthetic and Systems Biology Unit of the BRC, a vibrant systems and evolutionary biology institute, comprising young PI-s and an inspiring atmosphere. We offer cutting edge projects, instrumentation and publication possibilities, a competitive salary and vibrant research atmosphere.
The successful candidate may either be based in Szeged or Budapest (located in Eotvos Lorand University). Szeged is a mediterranean-feeling city in southeast Hungary with a strong pedigree in higher education (the University of Szeged has ca. 30000 students), providing a welcoming environment for open-minded postdocs.
