Postdoctoral fellow in metagenomics: Denmark
The successful candidate will work at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Biology in close collaboration with The Center for Biotechnology, Bielefeld University on a major multi partner EU funded Horizon2020 project aimed at providing sustainable innovation of microbiome applications in food systems. This highly ambitious project intends to use natural microbiomes to initiate future proof food production with the emphasis on sustainability for Europe. The candidate will provide a central role creating and an a lysing relevant microbiome data from the diverse areas of soil, marine,animal and food in order to provide application specific information for thedesign of synthetic consortia based on microbiome data. The project intends to provide free access to both research and development for rational construction of microbial processes based on single or multiple strains. The candidate will work primarily in Copenhagen Denmark but will be expected to travel to, and collaborate in, an excellent and highly dynamic research environment with partners throughout Europe. The position will initially be for 2 years; however there is the potential for extension at the host institution after this time. The University of Copenhagen provides attractive employment conditions for both domestic and international applicants. Special assistance will be provided for international applicants traveling to Denmark. The position is to be filled from the 1 March 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications We are looking for a highly motivated bioinformatics researcher with experience in analysis of microbial metagenomic data and / or host- microbiome interactions. Furthermore the researcher should preferably have a wet lab history to assist setting up experiments and a proven record of scientific writing.
- PhD degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Biochemistry or similar
- Independent research experience as a postdoc or other equivalent position
- Extensive experience with analysis of large metagenomic data sets (i.e. metagenome analyses, comparative analyses of host-microbiome interactions, sequence assembly)
- Extensive experience building NGS analysis pipelines preferably with both metagenomic and amplicon sequences
- Extensive experience with UNIX / LINUX systems. Hereunder, working knowledge with script writing languages such as Perl, Python and / or Ruby
- Proven publication track record
- Fluency in English
- You will be able to engage in teamwork within the group and our collaborators
- Extensive experience in applied research projects related to microbiology

Procedures
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him-herself. Salary and terms of employment The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of employment and payment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The starting salary is currently up to DKK 426.625 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 72.952). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
