Postdoctoral fellowship in Aquatic Viral Ecology, Sweden

Linnaeus University  offers a Postdoctoral fellowship in the The Aquatic Viral Ecology research group.

The research project
This project focus on the impact of different nutrient and carbon source on phage abundance and diversity. The project will use high throughput nucleic acid sequencing of viral community DNA as well as isolated phages to investigate their genetic diversity, linking them to co-variations with their hosts, and investigate the phages metabolic potential and how this affects nutrient fluxes.

Qualification requirements

  • PhD-degree in environmental microbiology, environmental virology, general virology or equivalent, which has been completed no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University.
  • The applicant should have knowledge of handling large ‘omics’ data sets.

Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include documented evidence of research experience regarding phages and aquatic virology as well as knowledge in bioinformatics analysis and programming. In addition, the Postdoctoral fellow should have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, be able to solve problems, and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.
