Postdoctoral Fellowship in marine microbiology: New Zealand

A full-time fixed-term (24 months) postdoctoral researcher position is available for a highly motivated individual to study the response of marine sediment microbial communities to acidification at the School of Science, University of Waikato, New Zealand.

The successful applicant will work with Prof. Craig Cary as well as Prof. Conrad Pilditch and Dr. Charles Lee to carry out research for a multidisciplinary project: “Acidification Response of Marine Sediments”.

The research will focus on metagenomic and metatranscriptomic responses of sediment microorganisms to ocean acidification, and in-depth knowledge o f microbial geochemical cycling and marine sediment ecosystems are highly desired.

The candidate

  • must have a PhD in relevant field(s) as well as hands-on experience with associated techniques, including metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, bioinformatics, and geochemical analyses of environmental samples
  • experience and expertise must be demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications
  • is expected to undertake laboratory and field research associated with the project and to maintain and make available current knowledge of relevant research areas;
  • is expected to fulfil relevant administrative duties and reporting responsibilities
  • an excellent publication record as well as good writing and verbal communication skills are important criteria for selection.
