Postdoctoral Position in Microbiology: Germany
The Leibniz-Institut DSMZ-Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH, Braunschweig (the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures in Braunschweig) has an open position for a Postdoctoral research associate in the Bacteriophage Group within the Department Bioeconomy and Health Research in the framework of an externally funded project. Initial appointment will be for 12 months with a salary level at the German public pay scale of TV-L E 13 with an option to extend for another 12 months limited to a total of 2 years. The position is full time and not suitable for part time work. Starting date will be as soon as possible and ideally not later than September 1, 2018. The post-doctoral project will focus on the isolation and characterization of phages for targeted pharmaceutical development.
Essential for the position are:
- a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in the field of microbiology, working knowledge of bacteriophages, phage and bacterial cultivation, and general molecular biology and microbiology techniques.
- candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading cooperative, distributed projects, strong communication skills that will enable effective interaction with offsite partners within Germany, high motivation and strengths in goal-oriented project management
- additional desirable skills include experience with commercial application projects and partners
- strong English skills are essential and knowledge of German would be a plus
