Postdoctoral position in Molecular microbial ecology of wetlands: Germany

The research group Geomicrobiology within the Department of Microorganisms of the Leibniz-Institute DSMZ – German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures offers the position of a Postdoctoral research associate (“Molecular microbial ecology of wetlands”).

The postdoctoral researcher will focus on genome-centric analyses of metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data obtained from rice paddy fields and lake sediments. This will involve producing and analyzing metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data. Verification of the obtained results will be conducted using biogeochemical process measurements coupled to qPCR analyses and re-sequencing strategies but also efforts to isolate target microorganisms into pure culture.

The Leibniz Institute DSMZ is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for molecular, chemical, and microbiological work including an own next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics core facility. Support for bioinformatics analysis is available.

Candidate profile

  • Is a highly motivated and creative person with interests in microbial ecology.
  • Should hold a doctoral degree in microbiology or a similar research field.
  • Have working experience in molecular biology and microbiology is a pre-requisite.
  • Familiarity and/or willingness to perform cultivation work and bioinformatics analysis are considered as a plus.
