Postdoctoral Researcher In Freshwater Ecology: Finland
Department of Ecology & Genetics, University of Oulu, Finland, has an opening for a 3-year post doc position in the project “Stream biodiversity change: disentangling the effects of multiple anthropogenic drivers on riverine ecosystems”. The project is funded by the Academy of Finland and the start date should be March/April, 2019. The project focuses on understanding the interactive and independent effects of climate change and land-use disturbance on stream biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. The project uses several freshwater organism groups and is strongly experimental, including both mesocosm and field experiments, complemented with broad-scale correlative surveys.
We are looking for an individual keen to work both in the laboratory and in the field. We expect a firm background in freshwater ecology, good knowledge on numerical ecology and statistical modeling, and fluent oral and written English skills. No previous experience on stream ecosystems is required but is considered a bonus. Also any experience with microbial ecology and molecular techniques is considered highly beneficial. The candidate should have PhD in a relevant field (ecology, limnology) by application deadline (January 13, 2019) and demonstrable qualifications in research (publications in international journals). In addition to conducting research in his/her own project, the post doc is expected to contribute to thesis supervision and teaching at all levels. The post doc will work in an international group of researchers at different career stages, all focusing on different aspects of community ecology of stream and groundwater-dependent ecosystems (https://streamecology.wordpress.com/).
The salary is based on the levels 5 – 6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50.0 % of the job-specific component). The salary will thus be roughly 3 400 – 3 800 € per month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
Applications, together with all relevant enclosures, should be submitted electronically by 13th January, 2018 at 23:59 (Finnish local time).
The application should include a brief outline (1 – 2 pages) of research interests, a CV with the names and contact details of 2 – 3 referees, and copies of relevant official exam documents. A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
