Postdoctoral Researcher in Human Microbiome Research: Finland

The research group Therapeutic bacteria and Intestinal Health directed by Adj. Prof. Reetta Satokari focuses on human intestinal microbiota and host-microbe interactions. In collaboration with Helsinki University Hospital, her group investigates the therapeutic possibilities of microbiota modulation by using fecal microbiota transplantation and the underlying microbiology (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/intestinal-health-and-therapeu…). We have an open position for a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN HUMAN MICROBIOME RESEARCH in an Academy of Finland funded project on host-microbe interactions in inflammatory bowel diseases.

The appointment is for 2 years, starting earliest on September 1st 2019. The position will be filled with a 6 months trial period.

We are looking for an applicant with a PhD degree in the field of microbiology, biology, biochemistry or related field and with a strong orientation to bioinformatics and statistics and keen interest in human microbiota research. Also, candidates with a PhD in computationally oriented field, such as computer science, statistics, physics or bioinformatics and with a strong orientation in microbial ecology or metagenomics are considered for the position. The work is primarily analysis of microbial 16S rDNA and metagenomic data as well as immunological, transcriptional and clinical data, but laboratory skills are considered as a benefit.

The successful candidate is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team is also required.

The salary (level 5) is based on the salary system of the Finnish universities for teaching and research personnel. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
