We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Researcher candidate with background in microbiology, genetics, molecular biology or related field to join our Microfluidics group at Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology of Tallinn University of Technology.

Tasks

Postdoctoral Researcher will work on the projects related to antibiotic susceptibility, novel antimicrobials and diagnostics using droplet microfluidics platform. We have recently developed a set of droplet microfluidic technologies for high-throughput screening of bacteria growth under different chemical stress conditions (http://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlehtml/2017/lc/c7lc00206h and https://www.biorxiv.org/content/early/2018/06/04/328393). Microfluidics is combined with different detection platforms (confocal microscopy, FACS, etc.) to analyze the growth of fluorescently labelled bacteria (e.g. E. coli). This technology will be applied to analyze different aspects of susceptibility at single-cell and population level. More precisely, we are interested in understanding the mechanisms how some isogenic bacteria fractions manage to survive antibiotic stress and proliferate. Droplet microfluidic tools will be used to investigate different aspects of such phenotypic heterogeneity. Postdoctoral Researcher can also develop his/her own research direction in this general field.

Successful candidate is expected to have background in at least one of those areas: DNA/RNA extraction and analysis, preparation of new plasmid constructs, construction of novel bacteria strains, antibiotic susceptibility screening, (fluorescence) microscopy, cell cytometry or FACS. No previous experience in microfluidics is expected. Comprehensive training in different microfluidic technologies is provided during employment.

Requirements

– PhD degree (not older than 5 years);
– PhD in the field of microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, genetic engineering or similar field;
– Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
