Professor (W2 with tenure track to W3) for Translational Microbiology: Germany

At the Jena University Hospital (JUH), Institute of Medical Microbiology (Director Prof. Dr. Bettina Löffler), application are invited for a Professorship (W2 with tenure track to W3) für Translational Microbiology. The person to be appointed will represent the subject in research and teaching. It is expected that the appointee strengthens the faculty’s research foci particularly with regard to sepsis and infection research. The ideal candidate will also participate in the progress of the SFB/TRR 124 “FungiNet“, the Center for Sepsis Control and Care (CSCC), and the Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC). An intense collaboration with the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (HKI) is expected.

Requirements include:

  • a university degree in a life science,
  • postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation) or equivalent scientific qualification,
  • teaching skills
  • the willingness to develop and advance medical education at the JUH.

The candidate should have an outstanding track record in publications and extramurally funded research, for instance in the field of functional microbial interaction research.

The successful candidate will be employed for four years first. On a successful completion of the first review, the contract will be extended for additional two years. On a successful completion of the final review after six years of employment, the position will be promoted to a professorship paid on salary scale W3 without additional selection procedure.
