Research Assistant/ Postdoctoral Fellow - molecular parasitology: Switzerland
The Institute of Parasitology is a joint institute of the Veterinary (Vetsuisse) and the Medical Faculty of the University of Zürich. The laboratory of molecular parasitology is part of this Institute, along with vector entomology, zoonoses and translational research, veterinary parasitology research, and the nematode-host interactions research groups. We work in a strongly interdisciplinary research environment encompassing veterinary medicine, cell/molecular/systems biology and bioinformatics. This includes investigation of parasite development and mechanisms of stage-differentiation in host animals on a molecular Ievel and using in vitro models.
Our group investigates the molecular biology of the Toxoplasma gondii sexual cycle in cat intestinal cells. The project involves frequent interaction with national and international project partners in the area of veterinary medicine, bioinformatics, computational biology, and database curation. In addition to a strong wet lab component, the project also includes comparative biology approaches as well as identification and functional investigation of factors which mediate cell type-specific host-parasite interaction during motility and cell invasion in vitro.
