Research Scientists in Infectious Diseases: Canada

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) is Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is a leader in human and animal infectious disease research and vaccine development. For over 45 years we have developed solutions to emerging diseases including eight commercially available vaccines—six of which were world’s firsts, with four more in regulatory development.

As a National Centre, we are home to one of the largest and most advanced level 3 containment facilities capable of housing both small and large animals including rodents, poultry, pigs, cattle, and bison. We are currently expanding our specialized infrastructure to include a vaccine GMP manufacturing facility, a new multi-species level 2 animal facility, and upgraded capacity to include level 4 containment. Our vision includes the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious disease of importance in human and veterinary health. We are currently growing our team of internationally recognized expert Principal Investigators in key areas of infectious disease research and prevention.

We are seeking outstanding scientists holding a PhD and/or DVM/MD with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and a proven record of research contribution in one of the following:

  1.  Molecular or cellular immunology of humans or livestock species.
  2.  Vaccine development platforms including novel adjuvants and vaccine delivery systems.
  3.  Vaccine formulation including formulation biochemistry, slow-release, or nanoparticle technology.
  4.  Virology with focus on important viral pathogens of humans or livestock.
  5.  Bacteriology with focus on important bacterial pathogens of humans or livestock.

The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for leading an independent, externally funded, and academically competitive research program that aligns with the goals of the organization and supports the development of knowledge, tools, or products to protect the world from infectious disease. The successful candidate(s) will also be expected to supervise trainees (summer students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows) and laboratory technicians, as well as contribute to effective knowledge transfer, community, and stakeholder engagement, as members of the academic community.

The successful candidate(s) will be appointed as a full-time permanent Research Scientist (non-tenure-track) at VIDO. Most VIDO Research Scientists are members of the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and have Adjunct Professor positions in one of the academic departments at the University of Saskatchewan. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience and highly competitive with academic positions in Canada.

Interested candidates are asked to submit their application including a cover letter, CV, and the names of three references online via the this link.

Review of applications will begin immediately; however, applications will be accepted and evaluated until the position is filled.
